It was there that he met a girl from Slovakia and went with her when she returned to her home country for a vacation. While in Slovakia he obtained a list of French companies working in the country and proceeded to send out his CV to them. It was AGS an international moving and storage company that responded and invited Peuch to be interviewed in Paris. There he said he was among four other candidates all of whom had both diplomas from universities and prior business experience. “Me I had nothing” said Peuch. The interview led to a position as AGS commercial director for Slovakia where he was for four years.

“We want to ensure that we exceeded the levels of security required by HIPAA so we never place our funding sources in jeopardy” Fusca explains. On the Radar Like it or not encryption will become part of most data at rest. Companies of all sizes are exploring encryption because of a real threat of losing data or having it stolen and because of government regulations such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and HIPAA which require protection of Social Security numbers credit card data and other sensitive information. While encryption isn’t required it can provide an easy blanket solution. “First we had the market leaders. Now we’re getting the midsize companies realizing that personal confidential information regulation is there to stay” says Eric Ouellet a privacy and security analyst at Gartner Inc. Ouellet says he saw a tenfold increase in customer calls about encryption technology beginning in January 2005.

The Return of Dot-Com Storage

Some storage firms are even embracing the arrival of Google and Amazon with open arms. Kazeon Systems for example has teamed up with Google to lend information classification expertise to Google’s enterprise search functions. “I think we are seeing a natural evolution of these companies’ businesses as the Web is primarily about delivering services and storage is a natural fit for a services model” says Troy Toman vice president of product marketing at Kazeon. “If you look at the buzz around enterprise computing evolving to a utility model you will see that the first part of the infrastructure to run like a utility (a centralized service within the organization chargeback models etc. ) is the storage layer. Toman does not discount the possibility that these internet giants may even evolve their early offerings into enterprise-class services. He points to Salesforce… html>SOX compliance” says Karp. “Companies that focus on a niche can do very well with online storage services. That said only time will tell if we are witnessing the resurrection of dot. Even with Google and Amazon entering the arena it may never develop beyond an elaborate consumer and home office-type market. But with the low-end being largely neglected by the storage mainstream any advance in this sector could be welcomed by millions of individuals and small businesses.

More than an application for storage

The other aspect that we referred to was the adoption of Linux. Last year it was Oracle which gave a Linux combination; this time around almost all major players are doing so. SMBs are emerging as important customers for database companies. In 2005 the growth in the SMB sector was a strong 70 percent. As Kaushik Bagchi Country Leader DB2 Information Management Software Software Group IBM India puts it “Pure relational database systems are also going to rise in the SMB sector as most of the SMBs are looking at implementing core applications with the trend towards packaged applications in this sector. ” The large picture that one gets when looking at the database market as a whole is the clear shift in the nature of the database from pure relational database to relational plus unstructured data such as documents e-mail and corporate digital assets. From simple database management to information management the database shift is significant and innovative… The effect of content management on database systems is different from the effect of BI. Thareja explains: “Content management is an application which can be different in look and feel depending upon the type of content to be managed— physical documents electronic documents or Web content. DBMS in a content management application only acts as a storage mechanism for storing security settings templates configuration settings and the like along with the pointers to the actual content which largely resides out of the database typically on the file system. “Content management is stretching database systems to the limit as they have to store more data in the DBMS. Microsoft is pushing content management in a big way with its Content Management Server which in conjunction with the SharePoint Server delivers an end-to-end solution for customers to manage their content in a highly advanced way. Bagchi considers BI and content management to be the flag-bearers in boosting database sales over the years. “Content management is another area of growth where use of unstructured data in the form of application forms processing forms invoices etc in core applications requires proper management of the unstructured data in a secure way” says Bagchi.

“There’s no legislation necessary the government already has the authority to require stronger containers reroute shipments and allow the kind of tracking that would allow local police agencies to know what they have to contend with in their communities. But to date it hasn’t been done. The risks involved in moving toxic rail cargo are a particular concern in New Jersey. Last fall it became the first state to enact regulations intended to deter terror attacks on chemical plants by requiring companies to explore the feasibility of switching to safer technologies. Because many of the railyards in New Jersey are near petroleum storage tanks natural-gas depots or propane tanks the effect of an attack on a rail car is likely to be magnified said Paul DeMatteis a security analyst at Global Security Risk Management a corporate security company… The risks involved in moving toxic rail cargo are a particular concern in New Jersey.
