“We think a lot of Zunes are sitting underneath Christmas trees,” Reindorp said. Microsoft tried for years to rival Apple’s iPod by offering an underlying media technology that could be used by a variety of music services and devices. However, Microsoft and the industry struggled with compatibility and simplicity. Microsoft decided earlier this year to go it alone with Zune.

And I am Arnab Chandra, one of our semiconductor analysts. I am very pleased to present here PMC-Sierra with David Climie, who is VP of Marketing Communications. He’s been with the company a long time and Mark Stibitz, VP and General Manager, Enterprise Storage. When he started he was a small little division but now there is an argument as to who is going to be bigger I guess so maybe that is more internal. We will have to see. The company is obviously very different as it has been in the past so we are very excited to hear from PMC-Sierra.

Liberty Media Corporation at UBS 34th Annual Global Media Conference …

(From Fair Disclosure Wire) ARYEH BOURKOFF, ANALYST, UBS: Okay, I’m Aryeh Bourkoff, our media analyst at UBS and welcome to the third day of the UBS Media and Communications Conference. I’m starting off today welcoming Liberty Media and its President and CEO, Greg Maffei. As many of you know, Liberty Media is a holding company owning interests in a broad range of electronic retailing, media communications and entertainment businesses and trades under two trackers — Liberty Interactive, which owns assets like QVC, and Liberty Capital, which owns assets like Starz and Open TV and, obviously, a stake in News Corp. and other– and other assets. With us today to present the company’s story is Greg Maffei, the President and CEO of the company. Greg, with the company’s Chairman, John Malone, leads the team in transforming Liberty from a business that owns assets to an operating company to maximize shareholder value. He assumed the role of President and CEO of Liberty in March of 2006, having joined the company in November of ’05… It’s a pleasure to get to come to UBS and chat with you all. I’m going to talk to you mostly today about Starz, because Starz has gone through a transformation in 2006 as part of that discussion that Aryeh talked about Liberty moving from a collection of assets to a true operating company. I think Starz is somewhat indicative of some of the things that we’re doing that are positive. I don’t think in this audience anything that I’m putting up on the page there is new. Obviously, we’ve had, with the rise of digital, whether it be digital cable or satellite and, obviously, the ultimate form of digital entertainment today, the Internet, massive consumer choice and audience fragmentation and you can see on this page, also, how we’ve seen the explosion of channels, movies and home video choice and, obviously, the Internet draining away and when the board of Electronic Arts wants to talk about digital video games, all the forms of creating consumer choice and fragmentation. If you look at the major networks their audience is roughly a third of what it was 20 years ago.
