(Finance–News) –> COPYRIGHT 2007 CMP Information Ltd. SELF-STORAGE COMPANY BIG YELLOW will become a REIT after winning its battle with Revenue and Customs about the classification of its income. Big Yellow said last Friday that the Revenue had withdrawn its objection to the company becoming a REIT, and that it would convert backdated to 15 January.

Reports of sickened animals led to the March 16 recall of 60 million cans and pouches of pet food produced by Menu Foods and sold throughout North America under 95 brand names. After Friday’s announcement, the company that produced the food advised retailers to remove all brands from their shelves, a company spokesman said, though the recall still applies only to the dog and cat foods identified on its website from the March 16 recall. Those cover cans and pouches of food packaged from Dec. “The recall has not been expanded,” Menu spokesman Sam Bornstein said Saturday. They were getting media reports that recalled items were still on store shelves along with others, and it would take too much time for retailers to sort through all the dates on containers, he said…
Typically in the USA, wheat — from which wheat gluten is made — is stored in bins or silos and not out in the open where rats would have access. Rodent control would involve traps outside the storage area. If repellents are used, they’re nowhere near food or food contact surfaces. They also would typically be very brightly colored so that they’d be very noticeable. “In another country, you can’t be sure they’d follow this process,” says Peter Clark, of Oak Park, Ill. , a food manufacturing consultant.
