With a few large, expensive servers typically sharing storage on a storage area network (SAN), the SANbox 6140 can increase disk and tape storage utilization by providing SAN access to a larger numbers of low cost servers in a data center, QLogic of Aliso Viejo, California said on Monday. The SANbox 6140 also streamlines the backup process in the enterprise by enabling low cost servers and servers in branch offices to be backed up to common SAN-based backup devices like Fibre Channel tape libraries, virtual tape libraries (VTLs), and disk storage, the company said. QLogic is a supplier of high-performance storage networking solutions, producing controller chips, HBAs and fabric switches. The company delivers a diverse portfolio of products that includes Fibre Channel HBAs, blade server embedded Fibre Channel switches, Fibre Channel stackable switches, iSCSI (Internet SCSI) HBAs, iSCSI routers and storage services platforms for enabling advanced storage management applications. The QLogic SANbox 6140 provides low cost, SAN connectivity services for the entire enterprise, QLogic said. The SANbox 6140 provides a solution that creates cost-effective SAN connectivity by routing standard Ethernet, through iSCSI, to Fibre Channel SANs, the company said.
