The spill earned Tower Chemical a spot in 1983 on the Superfund list, reserved for the nation’s worst environmental disasters. The EPA has spent about $5 million on the cleanup so far. Now, a quarter century later, the site is beginning life anew — as a recreational vehicle storage facility. The transformation is under way even though the site has resisted efforts to eliminate subsurface contamination. “The site has gone from a graveyard to something positive,” Clermont Mayor Hal Turville said. “I think that’s wonderful.
