Moving scams are most prevalent in Florida, New York, New Jersey, California, Texas and Illinois. This is primarily because these states have fewer laws to protect consumers. Moving companies are regulated by state and federal statutes. Moves that cross state lines, “interstate moves,” are regulated by federal laws. Moves that stay within one state’s boundaries, “intrastate moves. ” are covered by state laws. According to federal law governing movers, if you have paid 100 percent of a “binding estimate” and a mover fails to deliver your goods, they have violated federal regulations…

If you are able to return to your home, and you find your natural gas service is off, do not turn it back on — call The Gas Company. The Gas Company reports no major impacts to its natural gas pipeline transmission system, storage fields or other facilities from the fires. The Gas Company crews are beginning to enter fire-damaged areas where allowed by fire officials to assess the extent of damage, repair damaged natural gas service lines and meters, and restore service to customers.
