Daewoo to build offshore oil rig

The floating production and storage platform will be delivered to a company in Europe by Dec. 26, 2011, Daewoo Shipbuilding said Thursday without identifying the buyer. The facility will produce about 200,000 barrels of oil a day in the waters off western Africa. Oil companies, including Total and Exxon Mobil, are spending more money to explore and produce fuel as consumption increases in countries like China. That is leading to a fifth consecutive year of record orders for yards in South Korea, the biggest shipbuilding nation in the world…
Once it gains full ownership, Japan Tobacco plans to sell a 49 percent stake in Katokichi to Nissin Food Products, the instant-noodle maker, and the three companies will combine their frozen-food units. Japan Tobacco is moving into emerging markets and expanding food sales to reduce its reliance on Japan, where the percentage of men that smoke has fallen by half over the past 40 years. The firm, which is the maker of Camel cigarettes, bought Gallaher in April to add Russian and European tobacco sales and is reported to be planning a bid for Tekel, a Turkish state-owned firm.
