Keep sailing with the Stepping Stone House Regatta
Sail World – Feb 21, 2008
‘This year we estimate we need in the vicinity of $75,000 to maintain our services and to meet the added cost of government compliance. To achieve that we have a number of packages, including sponsoring a boat for the regatta,’ Past Commodore Harrison added. Organisers expect that many of the 350 participants will be company teams or sponsors of up to 10 or 15 and, together with the many individual sponsors, they will be aboard boats racing against each other under handicap. A feature of the Stepping Stone House Regatta will be the ‘Bledisloe’ Match Race between two Farr 40 boats, Ivan Wheen’s Sputnik and Martin and Lisa Hill’s Estate Master, with 1987 Rugby World Cup winning All Black skipper David Kirk and 1991 Wallaby captain Nick Farr-Jones participating. Among the regular corporate sponsors who will provide teams and individuals will be ANZ, Clayton Utz, St George, Societ Generale, Kennards Hire, Kennards Self Storage, the Sydney Morning Herald, Mulford Plastics, Syd Fischer and Ian Kiernan. Individual sailors are most welcome to join a boat and take part in the regatta – a welcome donation of $200. 00 is tax deductible…

One Long Haul
Wiscasset Newspaper – Feb 21, 2008
He said something like, “Oh, you’ll see it, it’s right there on themain road. ” But I didn’t see it, and before I knew it, I was in Windsor(turns out, it’s on Route 26 – I should have taken a right onto Route 26and gone about a half a mile). Meanwhile, back on Route 32 there was a Getty Gas Station, a companywith a big building called Bridgecorp (couldn’t tell if they were still inbusiness) then the lovely Windsor Fair Grounds, which I had heard aboutfor years, but never been there. This was followed by the ResurrectionHair Salon, which I had never heard of, but looked quite nice. Suddenly in the mist, a long angular building appeared, with its signnearly hidden from the 6-foot high dirty snowbanks: “Windsor School. ” So Idrove in, snapped a photo in the fog, and went on my way. Like theWhitefield School, this school is K-8, and will stay open under the newRSU…
I start to feel carsick – too many bumps, too much fog, too much eye strain. At long last I get to my next road – Route 3. Traffic is moving quitebriskly on this road, which is good in terms of making time, bad in termsof trying to get out on it because you can’t see more than 50 feet. I openmy car window to see if I can hear anyone coming. I floor it, and hope forthe best. The next sign is – yes – a “SCHOOL AHEAD” sign. Could it be the PalermoSchool? Yes, indeedy it is, so I pull in, take a photo, and get ready forthe last leg of my journey – Palermo to North Palermo.
