In Toledo, Promises Of Change Ring Hollow
Washington Post – Feb 24, 2008
Infrastructure investment could help stem the floodwaters that regularly overwhelm riverbanks after heavy rains and rebuild Toledo’s rutted roads and provide more jobs. Developing alternative energy meshes with the vision of local officials who tout the region as a hotbed of renewable energy technology. Both candidates said they would eliminate tax breaks for companies that send jobs overseas and use the money for programs to help displaced workers. Many here are up in arms about what they think is an unfair trade and worldwide business environment. But short of erecting trade barriers that many economists and business leaders say would be self-defeating, no one seems to know what to do — including Obama and Clinton. "To get elected, you have to appeal to everybody. But it is hard to say this makes a lot of sense…
Median home prices here barely top $100,000, yet the city is in the top 20 in the nation in number of foreclosures. Even a bright spot is the result of a downside. One of the fastest-growing segments in the local economy has been warehousing, where employment grew 40 percent in the past year — but that is largely because of the conversion of vacant factories into storage space. Both the Clinton and Obama economic plans offer protections to these struggling working-class voters. They would repeal tax cuts for upper-income Americans, extend the cuts for the middle class and offer tax credits to help families pay for college. Especially important in Ohio, both Democrats have foreclosure relief plans. Obama’s offers $10 billion in bonds to help homeowners avoid foreclosure.

Ice Accommodations
Washington Post – Feb 24, 2008
Part of the hotel’s allure stems from its simplicity. Bergqvist and his art director, Arne Bergh, like to talk about the purity of "genuine Torne River ice," and they’re not lying. The ice — stacked up in thousands of blocks in a nearby storage facility — is shockingly clear. While occasional cracks make patterns in the blocks, the ice itself is completely transparent — unlike ordinary tap water — which makes it look otherworldly. Bergh has a dreamy, philosophical air about him. "Sometimes when I look into the ice I see the sky, I see the emptiness. The inside is the outside," he said, adding that it’s the specific flow of the river that makes the ice distinctive…
The inside is the outside," he said, adding that it’s the specific flow of the river that makes the ice distinctive. "The conditions are perfect. It’s slowly moving, so air bubbles don’t get stuck in the ice. If it’s too fast moving it wouldn’t be as thick. It’s like frozen time.

Greystar Feasibility Study Progresses in Colombia
Resource Investor – Feb 24, 2008
New target exploration is underway and the first drill hole testing to 409. 1 metres has been completed at the Las Animas target approximately one kilometre south of the main Angostura deposit and the diamond drill rig is being moved 250 metres south. Moving to complete a feasibility study for Angostura, Greystar is also carrying out rock mechanic and pit stability studies, which are on schedule and expected to be completed by September 2008, management reported. Designing of an access road extension to the Vetas target area is 70% complete. Water quality monitoring programs are being carried out every three months with representatives of the local environmental authority. In addition, two parcels of land have been purchased to facilitate exploration of the Las Animas and Violetal areas of the Angostura property. Greystar has also purchased 50% of one of the 10% net profit royalties that cover half of one concession lying over the Angostura resource…
Its plan for developing the concession’s resources includes constructing crushing, milling, heap leaching, ore processing and waste processing and storage facilities on-site. Construction is expected to begin in 2009 with first production expected in 2010. The company has C$46. 2 million of cash on hand, sufficient to see the project through feasibility the production decision stage, management forecasts. Metallurgical testing indicates that more than 91% of the higher grade gold and somewhat lower for lesser grade ore from transition zones contained in Angostura’s oxide deposits can be recovered using heap leaching methods, according to a management presentation. Recovery from transitional zone materials exceeds 68% but depends on sulfur content. In addition, 79% of gold can be recovered from higher grade sulfides that also contain higher sulfur content by using a combination of flotation and bio-oxidation followed by leaching, according to company information.
