Pearson insisted it was its first such data loss. Charles Goldsmith, a spokesman, said: “We take great care of the quality of our data and security of our data and we deeply regret this incident. ” Pearson said it had brought in new security measures at its Iowa data headquarters which are thought to include more use of electronic data storage to prevent further losses. The hard drive was misplaced at its worldwide data centre in Iowa City, Iowa on May 22 this year. A Pearson spokesman said officials at the Driving Standards Agency were informed “promptly – by the end of the month”. The server contained the details of every British learner driver who took the driving theory test between September 2004 and April 2007. Pearson was at pains to point out that there were no financial details, or National Insurance numbers of driving licence numbers on the hard drive.

" See? Easy, funny, comfortable. Consider, by contrast, Michael Bloomberg. He built from scratch the financial data company that bears his name. I have heard him address an audience of civic leaders in a Power Point presentation that was complex but well-received, with standing applause at the end. He is not afraid to embrace big ideas, necessitating radical change in the status quo. Nothing wrong with that. Where he runs into trouble is getting from embrace to consummation…
Where he runs into trouble is getting from embrace to consummation. In his first term as mayor, he launched a campaign to have New York host the 2012 Olympics. It would have required construction of a subway extension, for easy access to the far West Side of Manhattan, where a huge stadium would rise on a concrete deck to be built over a train storage yard. To be up by 2009, the plan called for the stadium to be used for professional football games. What teams did he have in mind? Why, one of the same teams that, although self-exiled to New Jersey, were fraudulently continuing to use "New York" in their official names: the Jets. The concept of a stadium that on at least eight days every fall would draw 70,000 fans to traffic-choked Manhattan was mind-boggling. Most of those people would not take the subway.

“It’s a very self-sufficient, self-sustaining community,” she says. “I love it up here. “Frary worked as a Realtor in Moscow before moving to Boise in the summer. She now works as the education director for the Idaho Real Estate Commission, and she often speaks about the benefits of energy-efficient building when she attends meetings and other functions. It has been easy for Frary to compare her new home with her former home in Moscow, because they are about the same size: just over 1,900 square feet. Frary has noticed significant changes in the utility bills. Her highest gas and electric bill in Moscow was $289.
