Running out of storage
GulfNews, United Arab Emirates
The problem doesn’t end with companies just finding a way to store their data either. That extra data is driving up energy costs, can be difficult to access, and requires finding qualified people who can manage these systems. Tommy Hilfiger, the company founded by the American designer, has seen its storage demands drastically increase over the last few years, thanks to the company’s decision to comply with the Sarbanes-Oxley law in the US. The company is private, but wants to keep open the option of issuing an IPO, according to Arthur Vermeer, a technical services director at the company. Three years ago, the company was able to keep all of the relevant financial data on seven terabytes of storage. Today it needs about 50TB of data, or the equivalent of 11,000 DVDs. Storage issues are not just for the IT managers either, Stallings says.

He said there are now between 1,100 and 1,200 pieces currently on the site. But the looming $250,000 giveaway has attracted a second wave of skepticism: How is FieldReport going to make money?Petty explained a “three and a half point” business model for turning the prize money (which comes from investors) into profit. The first component is advertising, which he expects to generate a third of the company’s revenue; second is a self-publishing service that FieldReport plans to offer next year, which would allow users to compile books from content on the site – their own or others’ stories – and then buy copies of those anthologies directly from FieldReport. Enterprising members could also opt to sell these anthologies (splitting any proceeds with the writers included in their selection). The third part of the company’s business plan is a “perpetual trust” that Petty said will allow users – for a $20 fee – to archive “the stories of their lives as a kind of legacy. ” This digital storage service has been created independent of FieldReport, so that it will survive regardless of FieldReport’s long-term success as a business. The data would be publicly accessible so that, Petty said, “your great-grandchildren could conceivably look up your account (or whatever parts of that account you chose to make available to them) after you die.

To further our position in frozen entrees we’ve launched a new brand, At Home Gourmet, with five varieties, including protein and tortellini choices for club distribution, which we are already aggressively marketing. Similarly, we are enhancing our One Step brand, also for club distribution. Moving on to our CIBO Naturals brand, CIBO Naturals had plusses and minuses this quarter. Our new tapenade and bruschetta launches were very successful. We continue to work successfully with Starbuck’s and its supply partners. Even while it is closing stores, Starbuck’s continues to focus on offering quality and competitive choices at its remaining franchises. In addition, we continue to develop our relationship with Panera Bread and participated again in its seasonal menu rotation.
