Attorney General Reaches Settlement with Jacksonville Moving Company
North Florida NewsDaily FL
The settlement with Father & Son Moving and Storage of Jacksonville Inc. resolves allegations the company used misleading advertising failed to deliver furniture and other possessions at the prices promised and failed to disclose certain items on its contracts. Under the settlement the company must reform its business practices including its marketing tactics and the composition of its contracts. The investigation revealed through dozens of consumers’ complaints with the Attorney General’s office and the Better Business Bureau that the final prices charged at the end of customers’ moves were greater than the original estimates. Consumers were also told they had waived their rights to file claims for losses or damages after signing the "Delivery Acknowledgment" on the Bill of Lading a standard industry form used by all movers.

How does Skytap plan to take on the cloud?

Q: What advice would you give to companies who have Cloud Computing written into their 2009 budgets but aren’t sure where to start?Brodie: For an IT organization that isn’t sure where to begin I would encourage them to start by moving an IT environment such as QA IT ops testing or training lab to the cloud. This will allow a company to evaluate the level of ROI on their investment and learn how cloud solutions can help them achieve larger business objectives. It’s best to start with environments that are lower risk before moving to production workloads. Before choosing a cloud computing vendor companies should also carefully evaluate SLAs and past performance to ensure they are selecting a reliable solution that can guarantee maximum uptime. Q: One of the reasons IT dislikes the cloud is because it requires them to re-write their applications to run in a cloud. Is this true of all environments or do some clouds provide the flexibility to run applications “as-is”? Brodie: Cloud vendors that require applications to be rewritten do so in order to take advantage of proprietary application frameworks or storage services. This makes it challenging for organizations to quickly leverage them for existing IT environments and applications.

At Monday’s meeting Dave Young of Larson Design Group presented the planning commission with updated plans for the proposed operation. Young informed the board that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has approved the highway occupancy permit for the site and the project’s erosion and sedimentation plan has been approved by the Bradford County Conservation District. The company has filed for the joint permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the U. Army Corp of Engineers and expects to hear word on whether the permit has been granted in the next month said Young. That permit is needed in order for the project to begin operations since the site is located within the floodway. That pump that will be used at the site has been changed from a diesel-fueled device to an electric-powered one said Young.
